Top-Ranked Red Devils Dominate at Opening Scrimmage

Greene Central High School's Men's Tennis Super Scrimmage Extravaganza #1 featured three of the top five 2-A state teams in the state in the preseason poll (Newton-Conover #1, Greene Central #3, and Edenton Holmes #5).   The top-ranked Red Devils, coached by Brian Tate, showed no ill effects from the seven hour ride to Snow Hill and put on a dominating performance on Friday night.   Newton-Conover blanked Greene Central 6-0 in the opening round of singles, losing just eight games.   The Red Devils blanked Edenton Holmes 3-0 in doubles, dropping just two games, and did not lose a single game in a 3-0 doubles win over 3-A Gray's Creek.   "I would have to say Newton-Conover is just as good as advertised.   They are very strong from top to bottom," said GCHS Super Scrimmage director Donald Clark.
