Tarboro Wins Over Southwest Edgecombe in County Battle

Tarboro, coached by Billy Strother, prevailed 8-1 over previously unbeaten Southwest Edgecombe in a battle between county rivals on Thursday, March 24th in Pinetops.   The Vikings improved to 4-1 in the Eastern Plains Conference and 7-3 overall with the win.   Southwest Edgecombe, coached by Joel Elliott, dropped to 2-1 in the league and 3-1 overall with the loss.   "We knew that Southwest was undefeated coming into the match and that it would take our best effort to come away with the win.  The guys responded well to that challenge and we played a complete match on most courts.  We played very hard to earn this win over a solid Southwest team," commented Coach Strother.  Darrin Manning picked up the only win of the day for the Cougars at number three singles.  "I have been most pleased with the play of Mike Shirley and August Redhage over the past week.  They are providing much needed depth at 5th and 6th seed and #3 doubles," said Strother.   Tarboro will play host to league foe Farmville Central on Tuesday, March 30th.   The Vikings' junior varsity squad will be at South Creek on Tuesday.
