Roxboro Person Preparing for 2010 Season

Roxboro Person High School started its first week of practice with a tennis camp from 9:00-12:00 and afternoon tryouts from 3:30-5:30.   "We were pleasantly surprised to make the 4-A playoffs last year.   This year...well...losing five of your top six does not help!" said head coach Lynn Ward.    The Lady Rockets graduated four seniors last year and one junior decided not to return.   Roxboro Person has a returning all-conference player in junior Mary-Lynn Burton.  Carson Lunford also has some match experience.   "Besides those two, it will all be new faces on the court.   We have figured out that we could make up a heck of a fast pitch softball team, though, so after a tennis match if anyone wants to move to the softball field for a friendly game, let us know," said Coach Ward.   Roxboro Person has 25 matches scheduled for the year, so the team should get a lot of valuable experience.   "We have a few ninth graders trying out, so that will be a big boost for the future," he said.
