Rocky Mount Expecting Rebuilding Year

08/04/2016 11:00

Rocky Mount High School coach Barry Nethercutt is expecting a rebuilding season after losing his top four from the 14-1 2015 squad that lost in the 3-A state quarterfinals to Union Pines.   Seniors Sarah Bland and Grace Warner (#5 and #6 last year) will be expected to step into the top spots.  Junior Lauryn Clark, last year's #7, is expected to play as high as #3 this year.   "Beyond that, the positions are wide open," said Coach Nethercutt.

Coach Nethercutt commented, "We will be focusing on consistency, movement, and drop shots during the first two weeks of practice with the hope that we are still in the match when we start doubles.  Having said that, our doubles teams will take awhile to develop obviously, and we will try to focus on playing good doubles once we understand how to play good singles.  We certainly will not be a top 10 team this year, but we will try to be as difficult to play as possible."
