Mt. Airy Wins 1-A Men's Tennis State Championship

Mt. Airy defeated the North Carolina School of Science and Math 5-3 to claim the 1-A men's tennis state title on Saturday, May 22nd at the Burlington Tennis Center.   The Granite Bears, coached by Scott John, finished the year with a record of 16-2.    The Unicorns, coached by Richard McClenny, suffered their first loss of the season in the state finals and completed the season at 19-1.     The two teams battled to a 3-3 deadlock in singles, but the Granite Bears romped to wins at numbers one and two doubles to clinch the decision.
