Ledford Hopes to Repeat in Mid-Piedmont Conference
02/17/2011 09:33Ledford High School is returning 13 players, including four starters, from its 2010 Mid-Piedmont Conference championship squad. The Panthers started practice on Monday, February 14th with 17 players out the first day. Ledford's top returnee is MPC singles champion Landon Rogers. Rogers went 21-2 last season and was named the Mid-Piedmont Conference Player of the Year. Last year's squad went 16-4, losing in the first round of the dual team state playoffs 5-4 to Northern Guilford. Sophomore Ricky Ydrovo returns at #2 after going 16-3 last season. Senior Thomas Edwards was 21-1 at #4 last year. "He will need to improve as he moves up to contend for the 2/3 position," said Coach Doby. "This year's Panther team should be deeper than last year. Spots 1-4 should be solid while five and six create much needed competition among four or five athletes. We may have a revolving door at those spots. Doubles are still up in the air as chemistry develops. We appear to be the favorites again in our conference with Asheboro the most likely contender. Overall, the team will focus on daily improvement with the goal of winning the MPC title and advancing deep in dual team competition. We believe that all individual achievement will be rewarded if the team continues to succeed," commented Coach Doby.
