Clayton Welcomes 17 Out for Its 2015 Squad

08/11/2015 11:44

Clayton High School Kenneth Stivason has 17 players on his 2015 squad.   The Lady Comets have five returning starters, including junior Carmelle Joyner who has won Greater Neuse River Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year honors both of her first two seasons.

Coach Stivason believes that his current squad is deeper than last year's team that went 17-1 and won the conference title.  He expects this year's team to compete with West Johnston for the conference championship.

The other top returnee for the Lady Comets is senior Katherine Riley, a three year starter who was runner-up in singles at the conference tournament last year.  Other top newcomers include freshman Crystal Anderson and Jackie Rollinson who have both earned starting positions.   Clayton's only loss to graduation was number two seed Maya Guha.

"We have been concentrating on doubles play in the preseason and volley drills," said Coach Stivason.
